Superhero fancy dress and other fun costumes are to take pride of place at a music festival in the Lake District later this summer.

To celebrate the fifth birthday of Kendal Calling, its organisers have urged visitors to go along in fancy dress in order to have fun and maybe even win a prize.

"Anything goes at our birthday bash so come as your alter-ego, favourite film character or superhero and don your best glad rags for raving and misbehaving," the official website states.

Not only will there be plenty of fancy dress to look at, there will also be a real ale tent, The Human Doodle (we're not sure what that is, either), maypole dancing and a body painting platform, as well as music from The Coral, Doves, The Futureheads and more.

It will all take place between Friday July 30th and Sunday August 1st 2010, so why not go along and make merry?

For a fab costume that's sure to turn heads, you could opt for Princess Leia-themed Star Wars fancy dress, which should also keep you cooler than a Chewie costume would if it's hot.
