People in medieval fancy dress helped to encourage a group of children from Pontefract to walk to school recently.

Youngsters from Willow Park Junior School were joined by men dressed as brave knights as they participated in Walk to School Week.

Volunteers from the Royal Armouries in Leeds also dressed in medieval princess fancy dress to join the kids as they formed a walking bus to make their local area greener.

"We a chose a knight because we are learning about the history of the town and Pontefract Castle," explained headteacher Sue Hardacre in an interview with the Pontefract and Castleford Express.

She added that the pupils definitely turned a few heads as they wandered down the roads leading to the school.

Last month, Devon 24 reported that a man named Wayne Stewart from Exmouth had got married in knight fancy dress - but it is not known if he is getting involved in anything like Willow Park's walking scheme to indulge his medieval passion.
