David Arquette, one of the stars of Scream 4, has said the new sequel is taking the series back to its original roots.

In an interview with the Times Union, the actor revealed it was quite strange to go back to the franchise after so many years, but explained the fact that Scream 4 takes a similar tone to the first movie from 1996 actually made it feel like coming home.

"We have this new cast of kids who are experiencing what we were experiencing the first time around," he commented.

The new cast includes Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin, as well as old favourites Arquette, Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell.

Scream 4 sees Sidney (Campbell) return to Woodsboro to promote her autobiography, but a series of slashings seem once again to follow her around.

Sheriff Dewey (Arquette) and his wife, reporter Gale (Cox), are forced to investigate - but can they keep themselves safe as Dewey begins to unravel?

Scream was a smash hit in 1996 and was credited with revitalising the horror genre.
