A woman who is paid £50,000 a year to wear witch fancy dress at a top visitor attraction could lose her job after it was found that she skived to audition for The X Factor.

Fiona Robertson, 25, works at Wookey Hole Caves in Somerset and wears a witch costume to entertain crowds of tourists.

However, she threw a sickie in April this year to head along to the Cardiff auditions of the TV show.

But Fiona's plan to achieve stardom failed when her photo was released to the media this week as part of the publicity for the new series - and she failed to impress the judges.

Her boss Daniel Medley said her actions were "totally unacceptable" and said she could face disciplinary action.

"I will apologise so hopefully I can keep my job," said Fiona.

Should Mr Medley decide his witch's behaviour was just too wicked, he could always wear a Simon Cowell mask to say: "It's a no from me, I'm afraid."
