The BBC has confirmed that it will not be making any more episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures following the death of Elisabeth Sladen last month.

The 63-year-old had been appearing in the Doctor Who spin-off for the corporation's children's channel, but she recently lost her battle with cancer.

"As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed," a spokesperson commented.

There had been four series of The Sarah Jane Adventures since 2007 and it had become popular with younger fans of Doctor Who.

Sladen first shot to fame as the sidekick of both Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker as the Time Lord in the 1970s.

Last year, a library in Worksop held a special Doctor Who fancy dress day to allow youngsters to show off their knowledge of the sci-fi series while also improving their literary skills, the Worksop Guardian reported.
