A fun fancy dress event resulted in a brawl this week after groups of revellers began trading insults at a greyhound racing track.

Lots of people had gone along to Shelbourne Park in Dublin to watch the dogs race, with many sporting costumes to add some liveliness to the evening, the Journal.ie reports.

However, the night got a little bit too lively when those on opposite stands started insulting each other and before long, they had crossed the stadium to go and have a scrap.

An eyewitness told journalists he saw Bugs Bunny fancy dress among the many outfits in the fray, but added that he started to get a bit worried when he saw Robocop hitting people with bits of his costume and Sonic the Hedgehog lying flat out on the floor.

Shelbourne Park manager Patrick Flynn said he is trying to piece together what went on.

The incident is reminiscent of a brawl that took place at the Welcome Family Holiday Park in Devon last year, which saw Tinky Winky and Spiderman spend a night in a police cell after whaling on each other.
