People in Cumbria have been wearing Michael Jackson fancy dress costumes to help raise money for charity.

Friends of Andrea Thompson helped her celebrate her 40th birthday with a special themed party, which involved raising funds for good causes.

Cancer Research was one of Ms Thompson's chosen beneficiaries, along with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), reports the Whitehaven News.

This week, representatives of the heart charity visited Ms Thompson to acknowledge her charitable efforts.

She was presented with a special certificate of appreciation by the BHF, which relies on donations from the public to help carry out research into treating heart disease.

According to figures from the organisation, about 2.6 million people in the UK suffer from the condition.

If you're a fan of Michael Jackson and fancy staging a similar event, why not choose one of his outfits from the '80s, like a Bad costume?
