Feralia

Feralia was a nine day Roman festival that celebrated the spirits of the dead. During this period the Roman’s would visit the tombs of dead ancestors where they would make offerings of wreathes, grain, salt, wine and flowers to the deceased. The Roman book of Ovid tells of a time when due to involvement in war the holiday of Feralia was ignored. This caused the dead to rise from their graves in anger where they haunted the streets, destroying property and were even alleged to kill the living.
