Viking helmets are sure to be everywhere in Grimsby this weekend after the town's officials urged locals to don Dane-related fancy dress for a special event.
The town's first Founders Day is to take place on Saturday (June 19th 2010) and will celebrate its heritage, which dates right back to the Viking era, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.
There will be a full programme of events, including Viking battles, a mock wedding and a weapons display encouraging visitors to have a go.
Organisers have urged anyone who wants to go along and join in the fun to embrace the historical spirit by wearing Viking fancy dress, including helmets and lace-up boots.
You could also don a Valhalla Vixen Costume - if you're a lady - to be in with a chance of winning a £20 shopping voucher when the outfits are judged at lunchtime.
Grimsby is believed to have been founded by Danish fisherman Grim in the 9th century AD, although there is some evidence to suggest settlement there by the Romans a few hundred years earlier.
