Fans of Halloween fancy dress events may want to head to the city of Lancaster next month in order to check out special goings-on at the castle.
There are tours of the ancient building all year round, but it really comes alive on October 31st, with ghostly figures leading visitors around the judges' lodgings, the drop room and the court.
Its Dark History Tour is more scary than usual and takes place by candlelight, so it may not be suitable for young children.
However, older tourists are sure to be thrilled with the opportunity to check out macabre things like execution nooses and other instruments of punishment.
The story of the Pendle Witches is also particularly interesting and well worth finding out about, as is the gruesome tale of the short noose, which strangled victims to death instead of breaking their necks.
You could also see how prisoners felt by being locked in a dungeon for a few moments - but get out quick if you see Grim Reaper fancy dress!
Lancaster Castle is situated close to the city's railway station.
