Wear a Hat Day 2017 Ideas

Wear-a-hat-day Wear a Hat Day started in 2008 in order to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. Celebrity supporters this year include singer and musician John Newman, TV presenter Sarah Beeny, actor Sheila Hancock, former MP Ed Balls and the X-Files star Gillian Anderson! This year, Wear a Hat Day falls on Friday 31st March 2017, meaning you can dedicate the start of the weekend to it and help make it the biggest Hat Day Charity event yet! Here are several (well, five, specifically) ways of helping raise money for this most deserving of causes …

Wear a Different Hat Everyday to Work

Is it bad luck to keep your hat on indoors? Or is it just bad manners? Is it bad to wear a hat everyday of the week - a bit of a faux pas? Well, we don’t think so, but others may disagree. Well, whatever your thoughts on the issue, you could get others in your office to sponsor you to wear a different hat everyday. Maybe one day you can go as a policewoman or a fireman, another in a classy trilby, and yet another in a Fez. You can be as garish and daring as you possibly like! differenthats

Roundheads vs. Cavaliers!

What’s this? Wigs? On Hat Day? Well, why not? Also, this gives you the chance to wear potentially both a wig and/or hat! You can go in a musketeer-style hat or a long wig, or a puritan-style capotain hat or bald cap. Plus, it gives the chance for everyone to really go for the full-costume gusto and recreate one of the bloodiest times in British history. An excellent idea for schools, work and lots of other places besides.

Film and/or Book Characters

Ever wanted to be a monster? Maybe Sulley from Monsters Inc.? Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to spend a day as The Cat in the Hat? Maybe even the Dr. Who Tardis, which is its own character in its own regard!? There are absolutely loads of ideas with this one. Maybe even have a theme or something similar, e.g. Westerns, which could accommodate not only cowboy hats and Indian headdresses, but Mexican sombreros, too! Other theme ideas could include things like “Wizards and Witches”, which opens up a whole other world. Think Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, the Legend of King Arthur (Merlin) and pretty much any fantasy film or novel.hats-to-wear

Wear a Hat Day Quiz!

Have teams sorted by hats, and then make it a war of wits - extremely appropriate, considering it’s raising money for a brain-related charity. Of course, you needn’t focus on a quiz. You could have board games, card games, computer games and almost any other competitive thing you can think of!

Steampunk

Steampunk has been all the rage for a few years now, and it’s not hard to see why: the dapper Victorian style clothing mixed with gritty, grimy futuristic technology is a juxtaposition everyone loves. We’re sure the era-hopping series of Fallout games has had an influence in this regard as well, as has Ghibli anime, the novels of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, and various comics of the past 10 or 15 years or so. We here at Escapades not only have steampunk-style hats, but goggles, costumes, guns and more besides.

There are loads of ideas to choose from when it comes to hat day. You don’t need to be restricted to the list above - let it inspire you. Want a Where’s Wally? hat day, or maybe a Mario & Luigi hat day? Maybe you’d prefer 20s-style gangsters and molls, or something to do with the emergency services? Well, whatever you choose, have fun, and go raise loads of money!
