Aalborg Karneval Kostumer

Aalborg Karneval Kostumer Tema 2012At Escapade we have long been fans of the Danish carnival held annually in Aalborg every May. The one of a kind festival sees over 100,000 spectators watch and take part in the biggest party in northern Europe. The Carnival consists of a week of celebrations divided into three parts: The Battle of the Carnival Bands, the Children’s Carnival and the Grand Parade, which sees thousands of party goers dress up and take part in a giant parade. Aalborg Karneval is also well known for its eccentric themes with a shortlist over the last three years including: 2009’s La Dolce Vita – The Good Life, 2010’s Mars and Venus and 2011’s Sexzoological. The theme for 2012 is no different and this year sees the Aalborg Karneval theme literally turn the world upside down, with a theme that is well, “World Upside Down” (Verden pa hovedet). The World Upside Down theme leaves an endless collection of fun possibilities and the Aalborg Karneval organizers are encouraging those who attend to use their imaginations to subvert the normal and literally turn their on their heads. On the official karneval website they encourage those attending to reverse classic gender stereotypes, eg gender reversal, so typical male costumes for females and classic female costume for males. They also encourage those attending to dress as animals, regress to wearing childlike costumes and to use the term as a geographical reference and to wear costumes that originate from the other side of the world including China & Australia. Literally the possibilities are endless and at Escapade we have put together our very own collection of our favourite Aalborg Karneval Kostumer perfect for this years theme. If any of you are lucky enough to find yourself in Denmark, or even luckier, Aalborg on May 26th 2012 enjoy a party that all of us at Escapade are very jealous that we can’t attend.
