A little boy from the US is being cheered up while he undergoes cancer treatment by his love of children's fancy dress.

Aidan Reed, five, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in September 2010 and has already undergone chemotherapy and numerous other painful procedures, MSNBC.com reports.

However, he has always loved monster fancy dress and has been passing the time in hospital by wearing costumes and drawing dozens of pictures of them.

"I like to dress up as nice clowns and scary ones. I can be a wolf or a zombie," Aidan commented.

The little boy's aunt has now begun to sell prints of his drawings on Etsy and the family has been stunned to receive orders from as far afield as Japan, raising nearly $30,000 (£18,585) towards his cancer treatment.

It's great to know that children's fancy dress can have a truly beneficial impact on little ones, sparking their imagination even in the most difficult of circumstances.
