Original Ghostbusters Proton Pack and “Slimer” the Green Ghost to be auctioned

Ghostbusters and Slimer the Green Ghost go up for auctionAfter the news of the discovery of the Higgs boson set the scientific communities tongues wagging last week, another major win for science (albeit fictional science) has been announced with the news that the original Ghostbusters Proton Pack will be falling under the hammer on the 30th of July in Los Angeles. Although it isn’t clear which of the Ghostbusters wore this particular proton pack (it is rumoured the packs were alternated throughout filming, so it is possible all four of them wore it at one point) it is the first of its kind to come under auction and is an authenticated prop from the original 1984 Ghostbusters film. The proton pack is a portable particle accelerator allowing would be Ghostbusters among you to hold “negatively charged ectoplasm entities.” The military backpack frame is mounted with an aluminium backplate, measures 33 inches tall and is approximately 30 lbs (2 stone) in weight. The proton pack also includes the crucial “ray wand” which proves essential for catching pesky ghosts. The proton pack is estimated to go for between $60,000 - $80,000 (£39,000 - £52,000) making it potentially the most expensive Halloween fancy dress costume accessory of all time! The next major item up for auction is the Slimer Animation Maquette, despite the fact that Slimer was an animated character this Maquette was created by the Ghostbusters animator who used it to create a life sized replica for the binge eating, sliming green ghost in the film. Despite the fact that this latex Slimer hasn’t aged very well (like some of the films other stars) and is in the unfortunate situation of having lost his arms the $6,000 - $8,000 estimated auction price should make it a bargain for someone looking to pick up an iconic piece of cinematic history. The auction is being hosted by the auctioneers Profiles in History who specialize in Hollywood memorabilia. To top off a Ghostbusters themed affair which, includes the previously mentioned proton pack and Slimer maquette, the acution also includes the Ghost Trap with foot control accelerator used by Dan Aykroyd in the teams first successful ghost hunting experiment ($20,000 - $30,000), and a Ghostbusters II concept painting ($800 - $1,200).
